Celebrating one year of Lakeside Weightlifting Club – Awards and talent spotting

The new Hampshire based community club Lakeside Weightlifting- featured in lifting Times at its opening just over a year ago and so many great things have been going on there since!

Our members and coaches have lifted, sweated and laughed together building some very strong individuals, great sporting accomplishments and insane memories that go way beyond what I could have ever hoped for when starting out this venture.

We celebrated our first birthday in January with 50 members and shortly after the party we were nominated and very happy to win ‘Club of the year 2017’ a the Eastleigh Borough Sports Awards against stiff competition.

Our new junior, senior and masters squads; which are comprised of almost exclusively new lifters competing for the first time, have travelled to more than 8 regional competitions this year collecting a haul of medals and trophies - and some have qualified for National level competitions too. An awesome achievement when considering it is their first year competing in their sport.

The development of the club has also been recognized by British Weightlifting who have asked us to become a ‘National Talent Academy’ for youth lifters aged 8-18 years old  - Our club will train and develop local youth lifters for GB Weightlifting selection through ongoing youth training sessions and the opportunity to be selected for regional and national talent Squad training sessions throughout the year.

We are looking forward to another great year ahead with our little lifting community – keep your eyes peeled for one of our lifters Christine appearing on #thisgirlcan the national TV campaign spreading the love for Weightlifting into the national media!

If you are looking to improve your lifting youth, seniors and masters are welcome at lakeside and we are especially looking to expand our youth team intake this Spring and summer so please do get in touch.
