Why Women Should CrossFit

There has recently been an increase in the amount of women who weightlift and CrossFit, but many still believe that women should stick to cardio and never lift anything over 5kg unless they want to look ‘bulky’ or ‘like a man’.

So why should women CrossFit? Here are my 6 reasons:

It’s Fun!

It’s fun and different every day. Who wants to spend hours plodding on a treadmill day after day? CrossFit is constantly varied, functional, high intensity workouts. The main elements of CrossFit are weightlifting, gymnastics, metabolic conditioning and nutrition. You will work your entire body, be improving your health and having fun at the same time.

You will look great!

You will not look like a man or get bulky, women do not have enough testosterone to make this happen. A lot of people mistake weightlifters for bodybuilders, who have very specific training regimes, diets and supplements to look the way they do. Weightlifting will build lean, athletic muscles that will also burn fat. You will look toned, strong and fit. If you are eating well you will get those abs you have always dreamed of.

Everyone can do it!

It sounds scarier than it actually is. The WODs (Workout of the Day) can have intimidating names however the benchmark WODs are named after women, Fran, Diane and Grace are not scary sounding at all. I won’t lie, it is hard work but it is never scary. If you are worried that you are unfit or aren’t strong enough, don’t panic, all workouts are scaled to your own ability. You may think you could never lift heavy weights, do a pull up, or even complete 7 minutes of burpees, yet when you do it will be the best feeling in the world.

Confidence!

You will gain confidence. What’s more empowering than feeling strong? You will overcome challenges in the box in the form of daily WODs and PBs. You will start to lift heavier weights and become faster at workouts which will give you confidence boosts. This confidence will carry over into your daily life too as you get stronger and realise that everyday tasks become much easier to do.

The Community!

Everyone is welcome. CrossFit has a great community vibe. Everyone is there to improve; they’re only in competition with themselves. The support during workouts is incredible and the biggest cheers are usually for the last person to finish, it’s not how fast you are, it’s that you finished and gave it your all.

You will hit your goals!

You will get results. CrossFit gives the programming needed to enable you to reach your goals. Your coaches will teach you the fundamentals and ensure that you have the technique correct before moving onto speed and weight. They will also give advice on nutrition to help you perform better. If you show up at least three times a week, work hard, and eat well, results are inevitable.
